The Imam of Masjid Ayesha, Sheikh Abdul Mohymen MA has been part of this establishment since the late eighties. Formerly a lecturer at various institutions in Bangladesh and Algeria, he brings with him his vast knowledge of different Islamic sciences such as Tafseer, Hadith, Seerah, Islamic History, Fiqh and Aqeedah. Speaking in six different languages, he is able to communicate effectively with the different Muslim communities. Not only does he deliver lectures and sermons at the mosque, he regularly addresses audiences at Islamic events and conferences. His talks are broadcast on community radio stations and channels. Some of the regular events that he hosts at Masjid Ayesha include the following:
- Tafseer (explanation of the holy Qur’an) every Sunday at 11am to Bengali Women’s Forum and at 1:30pm to the mosque congregation.
- Study of Hadith (Prophetic tradition) every day after Asr prayer and every Monday at 7pm. Times vary according to the prayer timetable. Please contact the Imam for time.
- Sermon delivered every Friday before the congregation
- Talks during key events in the Islamic calendar such as Ramadhan, two Eid festivals and Lailatul Qadr (the Night of Power)
Imam Sheikh Abdul Mohymen is available throughout the year to answer questions on Islamic issues. He also provides advice and counselling to members of the community facing difficulties in their family and social life. He coordinates visits to see the sick and elderly in hospitals and their homes.
As a Minister of Religion, he is licensed to solemnise marriages according to the Islamic Shariah law.
